WINDHOEK – Metropolitan Namibia, in partnership with the Michelle McLean Children’s Trust (MMCT), launched the 11th edition of the MMCT/Metropolitan Golf Day in the capital, last week.
The event attracts approximately between and 44 teams every year. The massive sponsorship of N$100 000 provides MMCT with the opportunity to mobilize key stakeholders from different sectors in the industry and to raise funds through entry fees, auctions and various sponsored prizes. Speaking at the launch, chairperson of Trust, Michelle McLean-Bailey emphasized the importance of golf saying: “Golf, as a disciplined sport, was the perfect networking platform to bring corporate companies together to contribute towards the trust’s fund raising initiatives.” The former global Namibian beauty queen invited corporate companies to support the initiative by purchasing holes and donating prizes for auction towards the staging of the event.
The proceeds from the annual event have contributed tremendously to the trust’s projects, while a small percentage of this year’s proceeds will be donated to the development of four upcoming Namibia junior golfers from Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. The junior golfers will compete at the MMCT/Metropolitan Golf Day on December 06 later this year at the Rossmund Golf Club alongside experienced and seasoned golfers. Group CEO of MMI Holdings Namibia, Jason Nandago said Metropolitan’s involvement in the event is a result of the passion the company embodies towards the financing of organizations that focus on addressing the needs of communities with a particular emphasis on children. “As a financial service provider, our core business is centered around empowering individuals through financial resources and other means, giving everyone the chance to shape their own future and destiny,” commented Nandago.
