WINDHOEK – Barely days after being awarded the International accolade of Best Boxing Academy on the entire African continent by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Convention, the MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing & Fitness Academy has gone a step further by taking boxing to the youth by staging a Youth Development Boxing Day at the UN Plaza in Katutura, last weekend.
The event started at 15h00 with 24 bouts that attracted 48 junior boxers between the ages of 12 and 17 trading leather among themselves – much to the delight of a large crowd, which included parents and family members making this a perfect family outing. An excited Nestor Tobias, said the event was a resounding success and formed part of the academy’s mandate to take boxing not only to all corners of Namibia at all levels (professional and amateur), but to extend this platform to the youth in an effort to inspire them to become future world champions. “Boxing is a very successful sport and has become one of the biggest sporting codes worldwide and we therefore need to inspire our future world champions from an early age. We have undertaken a firm commitment towards our sponsor MTC that we will put more emphasis on grass-roots development and this initiative is part of many more such ventures to come,” said the boxing guru. To add excitement to the line-up, alltogether 15 bouts were on the menu with senior boxers in action to wrap-up an otherwise exciting evening of boxing. Boxers from various academies in the Khomas Region such as Nampol and NDF also took part in the event.
Some of the leading boxers in the stable of the reputable MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing Academy are hard at work warming up ahead of the biggest fight of the year slated for October 05 at the Ramatex Hall that sees Paulus “The Hitman” Moses square off against Leonardo Gonzalez from Argentina. Meanwhile, boxing enthusiasts are advised and encouraged to buy their tickets from Computicket well in advance to avoid disappointment.
