WINDHOEK – Following the scathing attack in the media yesterday by Stanley Katzao on Quinton van Rooyen, the Managing Director of Trustco Group Holdings, Bob Kandetu, Trustco’s Head of Corporate Communications, issued a terse statement saying ‘the law is taking its course and we shall not be involved.”
Kandetu declined to make any further comments. In a full-page advertisement that appeared yesterday in New Era, Katzao labeled Van Rooyen a convicted thief and expressed the desire to remain “God willing, an exemplary Namibian citizen without any criminal record against my name.” In the paid media release Katzao explained why he owed Van Rooyen money, which debt was used to annex his luxury Porsche.
According to Katzao he was head-hunted by Van Rooyen to become the CEO of Legal Shield and that before he could take on the responsibility he realised that he still had an outstanding debt of N$28 804.42. If this debt was not cleared, Katzao said, it would not have been possible for him to assume the position. According to Katzao, Van Rooyen insisted that since he is ‘indispensible’ he (Van Rooyen) would clear the debt and deduct the amount from his salary, but nothing was deducted. He further said that Van Rooyen is an “exceedingly vindictive character and a very bad loser.” This he said in relation to the ongoing Anti-Corruption Commission case against him in the Katutura Regional Court. Katzao alleges that charges have been beefed up against him with bogus evidence to try and secure a conviction by all means.
