WINDHOEK – As part of Ernst & Young Namibia’s corporate social responsibility the firm’s partners and staff embarked on supporting vulnerable people affected by the severe drought.
With the help of Development Aid from People to People (DAPP), 100 residents at Uukango, a village in the Oshana Region and 100 residents at Okatunduya, a village in the Ohangwena Region were identified for assistance. The criteria used to identify the residents were that they should be vulnerable women, children and elderly people affected by the drought and are at risk of starvation or malnutrition.
According to Ernst & Young Namibia it will endeavour to continue with this food support on a monthly basis until the country receives reasonable rainfall. The staff of DAPP and the regional offices of both constituencies will ensure that the identified residents receive the food.
The Uukango and Okatunduya villages were visited by Ernst & Young’s Mirna Koekemoer, Peter Elindi and DAPP staff on Saturday. They were accompanied by Erkson Ndawanifa from the Omulonga constituency and staff members, as well as Joseph Mupetami from the Okatjaili constituency and his staff.
