WINDHOEK – Momentum Namibia yesterday once again reaffirmed its commitment to hockey development when it sponsored the Namibia Hockey Union (NHU) with N$100 000 to host the 3rd edition of the annual Momentum National Schools Hockey Challenge.
The schools open tournament, which caters for U/14,U/16 and U/18 teams, will take place on September 12-14 at the Doc Jubber hockey fields in Windhoek, where more than 300 players from more than 25 teams from across the country will be expected to grill each other in the 3-day event.
Speaking at a brief handing over ceremony, Momentum Namibia CEO Etienne Brits emphasised that the N$100 000 sponsorship for hosting the tournament is in line with Momentum Namibia’s philosophy of partnering with organizations such as NHU that can assist their company in meeting its promise of delivering financial wellness to sport bodies through creating a platform where athletes can excel and achieve their purpose and desired goals.
“One of our long term visions for hockey in Namibia is to see the expansion of schools hockey in the various regions, while also increasing the level of competitiveness across all age groups,” added Brits.
Laurie Howard, speaking on behalf of NHU expressed sincere appreciation for Momentum Namibia’s continued support and highlighted the importance of the tournament in terms of growing the sport of hockey, while also unearthing raw talent. “Players that have represented Namibia in South Africa or further abroad will this year not be eligible to participate in the tournament but will be taking up ambassadorial roles to assist the aspiring youngsters with skills and other related necessities that will benefit the local community at large,” said Howard.
