National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Pty) Ltd (NAMCOR) has announced the appointment of a new managing director, Sam Beukes.
The 42-year-old Beukes has vast experience in the industry after working at the company for the past 15 years.
The position of MD was left vacant in June last year after the death of Joe Mazeingo who served NAMCOR as managing director for nine years.
NAMCOR Board of Directors Chairperson Faniel Kisting, announced the appointment of Beukes as MD at a press briefing on Friday.
“Sam Beukes holds a B.Com Accounting Degree and a Business Honours Degree from South Africa. His appointment has also been approved by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Errki Nghimtina,” said Kisting.
Accepting his new position, Beukes said he would remain steadfast in taking the company to greater heights so that it may become a reputable player in the oil and gas industry.
He vowed to take NAMCOR’s national mandate a step further in sourcing petroleum products.
“To fulfill the mandate of ensuring Security of Supply, NAMCOR must become an integrate company, meaning exploring and producing oil and gas (crude oil successfully, transporting oil and gas to markets, refining petroleum products, investing in storage and distribution infrastructure and making NAMCOR a recognizable brand in the market place,” said Beukes.
According to Beukes, the company has already embarked upon the process of sourcing petroleum products by itself from various sources by forging significant relationships with international suppliers.
This can be done through what he cited as Public Private Partnerships and Black Economic Empowerment ventures.
With an open door policy for all stakeholders, Beukes wants to enhance strong relationships, while at the same time re-investing NAMCOR’s profits in its “human jewels”.
“NAMCOR plays a very important role in the equation of energy security. The availability of petroleum products is at the core of our day-to-day objective,” he said.
NAMCOR currently imports 50 percent of the country’s petroleum products. This is mainly done through a term supply with strategic partners.
“My goal is to take this national mandate a step further and source petroleum products ourselves and from various sources,” he said.
Beukes has been with NAMCOR for the past 15 years. He served as acting managing director following Mazeingo’s death.
