Eleven prisoners escaped from lawful custody at Katima Mulilo at about 23h30 on Tuesday of last week. According to a police crime report, the eleven trial-awaiting prisoners escaped from cell number four.

Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Angula Amulungu, said the eleven escapees, who forced open the cell door, are: Sinvula Stephen Tawana, Kaonde Namushi, Martin Situmbeko, Matengu Sitali, Moses Tawila, Joba Walter, Sabo Mike, Nyambe Simasiku, Mahela Milupi, Moya Kisco Mazilebu and Mavumbelo Sivumbeko Evans.

This is apparently the first jail break from the Katima Mulilo police station. No arrests have yet been made, and police are continuing with their investigations.

Meanwhile, according to the latest police report, a 77-year-old man allegedly raped a 24-year-old woman at Onaame village in the Ohangwena region. The suspect was arrested and appeared in the Ohangwena Magistrate’s Court last Tuesday.

Another rape case was reported at Okahao in the Omusati region when a five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her cousin (age not known). The suspect is still at large, and police investigations continue.

Also in the Omusati Region, at Nakayale village, the body of a newborn baby was found floating in a canal. No arrest has been made in this regard, but police investigations continue.
