Aus Tourism Surges Forward

The Aus Tourism and Information Centre is positioning itself to play a bigger role in attracting tourists to the town.

The centre started with its operations in July last year and is considered a first of its kind as a value addition product to the tourism sector in the town and the Karas Region.

The building of the centre is owned by the Aus Community Conservation Trust (ACCT), and run and managed by an individual entrepreneur, Claudia Baisitse, who owns 51 percent of the shares of the business. Nature Investment and Klein Haus Vista that trade under the Gondwana Desert Collection group, own the remaining shares.

“We help tourists to develop a perspective of the town and as far as possible, the region,” said Baisitse.

“The centre is a catalyst for the tourism development in the town; it is putting Aus back on the map.”

Most of the inhabitants are dependent on the tourism sector. Before, said Baisitse, most people regarded the sector as a “white man’s industry”.
