The 19th All African Students Conference under the theme ‘Youth Leadership: Striving towards Economic Emancipation’ starts at 09h00 today at the Polytechnic of Namibia.

The conference, which ends on Thursday, is eing held at Auditorium 1, it was announced in a press statement.

“The All African Students’ Conference (AASC) brings together African students and those in the Diaspora, as well as individuals from organizations working in the interest of Africa.

The main objective is to provide students of African descent with a forum to share and exchange ideas and information, and to promote linkages between Africa and its Diaspora.

“The AASC was established in 1988 as a non-profit organization to promote understanding and co-operation among different peoples and groups,” the statement said.

The All African Students Conference has been convened on other continents since inception.

“However, it took place for the first time in Africa in 2005 under the theme: ‘Strengthening Unity of Africa and its Diaspora in Namibia’, at the University of Namibia.

In 2006, the Polytechnic of Namibia bid for the conference and, as a result, is currently being hosted at the Polytechnic of Namibia,” the organization said.
