At the International Labour Conference in 1987, ILO recommendations No.s 127 and 128 regarding maximum weights to be moved were adopted. While these two standards give basic guidelines on the subject, the more information one has on the effects of manual handling of loads on human beings, the more complex is the picture of contributing factors.
These include sex, age, strength of the workers, plus total working time, the mass of the load, its size, ease of grip, symmetry of the effort and the temperature of the working environment.
In most worksites productivity depends on the safety, health and welfare of the employees involved (Labour Act, 1992).
Whatever strategic plan is devised for achieving or enhancing productivity, management passes such plan on, via the supervisors, through to subordinate officers. The supervisors act accordingly??????’?????’?????????????
