The Namibia Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) and MultiChoice welcomed the new player in pay television, GTV Namibia that was launched last week.

Kobus Bezuidenhout of MultiChoice said the competition will offer consumers more choice and stimulate local production and television markets in Namibia.

“MultiChoice has always strived to provide the best possible television offering in Africa and we have consistently benchmarked ourselves with the best pay television platforms globally,” Bezuidenhout said.

With constant research and reviewing of channel offerings, he said, DStv has over the years adjusted its channels to improve the DStv bouquets.

In the last two years DStv has added a number of top-rated channels from around the world, including Animal Planet, the History Channel, Disney and Crime and Investigation.

“We intend to continue this investment in channels and content and will be adding new channels to DStv in November,” said Bezuidenhout.

While the new GTV Namibia direct-to-home satellite service offers cheaper packages of between N$170 and N$270 per month, DStv offers three different bouquets “for all budgets”, according to Bezuidenhout.

DStv’s monthly premium bouquet is N$439, its compact bouquet is N$228, and its family bouquet with more than 20 channels is N$139 per month.

Bezuidenhout said the SuperSport channel further offers a “significantly broader range” of world-wide soccer leagues such as the UEFA Champion League matches, the Euro Cup and World Cup qualifiers, and that DStv will “continue to provide a significant portion of all soccer coverage available”.

“Over and above this, all other major sporting events will be available on SuperSport,” said Bezuidenhout.

NBC Director General Bob Kandetu said the broadcaster would “go on as it normally does”.

“I don’t think it would be fair to position ourselves vis-???_?_’???_?’???_?
