The Abattoir Association of Namibia has questioned the validity of a Draft Report on the Small Stock Marketing Scheme by the world’s largest professional services firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC).

The Abattoir Association is of the opinion that the report – which concludes that exports of small stock could be reintroduced by just paying a nominal levy – could ruin the strategic investments around creating sufficient world class slaughtering and tannery capacity within the country.

The report, according to the Association also ignores a Cabinet directive to exempt live sheep from a 15 percent levy on condition that the existing slaughtering facilities and tanneries are utilised to full capacity within four years from November 1, 2003.
