RUNDU

China Henan International Cooperation Group Co. Ltd (CHICO), awarded the tender for the multi-million-dollar Rundu-Elundu Road project, has vowed to complete the road by November 2010 as agreed in the contract with the Government.

“We will stick to our commitment,” said CHICO’s Project Manager Lu Shunzhou yesterday.

Following an international bidding process, CHICO was awarded the tender on October 13 last year to upgrade the 370-km gravel road between Rundu and Elundu.

The project will bring employment to over 250 people. It is estimated that about N$30 million will be injected into the local economy.

“It is also our intention to spend as much as possible to the benefit of local communities,” said Shunzhou.

According to Shunzhou, the communities would be informed through their local councillors as well as the governor’s office when the jobs become available.

In addition, Shunzhou urged traditional leaders as well as the communities to cooperate as well as assist the company whenever help is needed: “Because without your assistance and help the contract will not be carried out successfully.”

CHICO is involved in international contractual projects, labour service cooperation and technical service, external investment, undertaking state foreign economic aid projects and import and export trade.

The company has successfully developed businesses in over 60 countries and regions and gained sound achievements and has attained ISO9001: 2000 International Quality System Attestation certification, Shunzhou said.

CHICO has already executed more than 100 overseas projects and foreign economic-aid projects in over 20 countries in Asia and Africa.

“We started operating in Africa in 1983 and completed roads in Zambia, Tanzania, Mozambique, Senegal, Guinea and Liberia. The total construction volume that we are undertaking amounts to N$4.2 billion,” said Shunzhou.
