Roadblocks on our roads seem to have started already. This is really good in terms of reducing the number of accidents and deaths on our national roads country-wide.

Stakeholders involved in road safety have a big collective role to fulfil – they are supposed to disseminate all relevant information to road users, not only to wait the day when nation-wide roadblocks start.

Some campaigns have been carried out in some towns but this was not enough and campaigns of this magnitude should have objectives, goals and targets.

Briefly, roadblocks in Namibia should be a carnival, thus when road users come near the roadblock, they should feel free that they will reach their destination and this could only happen if the roadblock environment is friendly or conducive.

Local authorities in different towns can also assist in this campaign, for example a warning message on their sign boards when road users leave their towns like (Thanks for visiting Karibib, Please don’t Drink and drive) instead of messages like thanks for visiting Karibib and that’s all ǟ
