Prime Minister Nahas Angula has encouraged the private sector to adopt “home-grown” responses to the problem of HIV/Aids.
“One in five Namibians is infected with HIV/Aids, and this disease remains one of our biggest threats. If not addressed HIV/AIDS will spiral into a more aggressive vicious cycle, decimating our markets and future growth opportunities,” Angula said.
Namibia already faces the challenge of a small market – further aggravated by income disparities.
The private sector should therefore be involved in helping to safeguard the Namibian people by offering innovative responses.
The Premier expressed his concern when officially launching the 2007 Business Decision Makers Survey on HIV/Aids in Windhoek yesterday.
Currently HIV/Aids affects 19.9 percent of the country’s population, which translates into 380ǟ
