Two staff members at the Swakopmund State Hospital yesterday handed gifts to some patients at the hospital as part of their personal social commitment to the coastal community.

Alona Joseph, an assistant at the State Cottage Hospital in Swakopmund and nurse Helga Richter, joined forces and put resources together to reach out to the patients.

“We thought about buying basic needs daily used such as washing racks, toothpaste, tooth brushes, body lotion and some fruit juices for the adult patients,” said Alona Joseph.

“We also bought sweets, biscuits, cold drinks and some toys for the children,” said Helga Richter.

The two individuals were touched by the lonely Christmas some of these patients have to spend in hospital while most Namibians will be elsewhere, spending a quality festive season with their families.

“It is against this background that we decided to reach out to these patients and try and make them happy in our own small way,” the two friends said.
The two are looking for a firm commitment from any company to continuously support the patients with these basic needs.

“We are calling upon willing companies or individuals to contact us for future projects of this nature,” said Alona Joseph.
She can be contacted at the Cottage Hospital in Swakopmund on 0813107471.
