WINDHOEK – The National Women’s Football team, the Gladiators, left for Germany on Wednesday on an intensive two-week training sortie as preparations for next year’s CAF African Women’s Championships gain momentum.

Jackey Gertze of the NFA Women’s Desk said the team would be hosted in the Kaiserau Sports Centre. “A number of friendlies have been organised for the team where they will compete against respectable clubs, including the Westphalia regional women’s team in their four warm-up matches.” The two Germany based Gladiators, Mammie Kasaona and Vewe Kotjipati will join the rest of the squad at the training camp. The pair has spent three seasons in Germany and compete in the German Women’s League in the Westphalia region.

The Gladiators are also buoyed by the news that Thomalina Adams and Lorain Jossob will remain in Germany after the training camp with Adams set to join a yet to be named 2nd division outfit, while Jossob starts her sojourn with a 3rd division team when play resumes in the new German women’s football season.

The travelling entourage will be accompanied by head coach Jacqui Shipanga and her deputy Harry January, who also doubles as goalkeeper coach, as well as team manager Natasha Cloete and NFA Technical Director Klaus Staerke (trip coordinator).
