WINDHOEK – President Hage Geingob said the Southern African Development Community (SADC) should devise a funding mechanism to ensure effective implementation of the recent SADC summit themes.
“The themes should also be operationalised beyond one year in order to ensure that we achieve the underlying objective of industrialisation of the SADC region,” said Geingob.
Geingob who spoke on Saturday in his closing statement said he was pleased to acknowledge the 38th SADC Summit had endorsed that industrialisation remains the overarching theme of the SADC agenda.
He added subsequent themes will be aligned to industrialisation to facilitate implementation and assessment of the SADC Industrialisation agenda.
With regard to the SADC funding mechanisms, the new SADC chairman said the modalities would be worked out by the technical people.
He called on SADC leadership to maintain the momentum established at the summit.
“Our decisions must now be turned into actions and our actions must yield positive results for our people. Deliver on the promise of infrastructure development,” stressed Geingob.
