WINDHOEK – The Onayena Youth Forum (OYF) in the Onayena Constituency in the Oshikoto Region is organising a Motivational Power Talk for youths in the northern part of the country this Friday at the Onayena Council Office.

The event will be hosted under the theme Get Inspired to become a productive citizen. Youth activist and chairperson of the OYF, Martin-Olembe Antindi, says the main aim of the event is to prepare youth in communities as future leaders and to inspire them to be productive citizens that are required by the country, and refrain from wrongdoings.  “We also want to [discourage] them from destructive behaviour that will contribute nothing to their own well-being as well as nation-building,” says Antindi.

The event is being organized by the OYF in conjunction with Oshikoto Youth Forum, and the Onayena councillor’s office. “Another purpose of hosting this event is to create a platform to facilitate a motivational power talk whereby we have invited certain prominent and influential individuals around the community,” says Antindi. He adds that they have invited a local businessperson and one of the senior headmen in the constituency, Naemani Amalwa, to inspire the young ones. They have also invited the hardworking female principal in the area, Hilma Hamunyela.

Apart from the youths themselves and other guest speakers, they have also invited some warrant officers from the Onayena police station to speak about criminal activities and how youth can keep themselves away from crime.
A self-employed youth leader from the Oshikoto Development Fund (ODF), Ellen Nafali Nuule, has also been invited to share his successes.

The OYF is part of the Oshikoto Regional Youth Forum and is one of the most active youth organisations in the Oshikoto Region in advancing the interests of the youth.
