ONGWEDIVA – A war veteran who benefited from the Ministry of Veteran Affairs project grant of N$200 000 on Monday donated about 200 loaves of bread benefiting more than 152 learners camping in the Ohangwena Region.
Immanuel Isaskar, the owner of IAAE-HOMMS Trading was initially funded by the veteran affairs ministry with the construction of a minimarket as well as starting stock in 2014.
To date, the business has grown and it now includes a bakery, a liquor store and a construction department employing eight people altogether.
Isaskar who previously only supported the Ondeikela Combined School, this year extended a helping hand to Eloolo and Isai Nhinda Combined School and plans to envelop all the schools in his business vicinity in the near future.
“Our mission when we were fighting for the independence of this country was to make Namibia a better place for everyone and we can only do it if those of us who have benefited from the project grant can plough back into the community,” said Isaskar.
He said the schools that he added as beneficiaries this year are in the areas of some of his biggest clients at the bakery.
He urged fellow war veterans and those yet to benefit from the project grant to ensure that they uplift the communities in which they are operating and the country at large.
He also appealed to the war veterans to hold hands and support the community collectively in order to make a significant socio-economic impact.
“If we were many we could have made a bigger donation impacting a larger population, but for now that is the little I could afford,” said Isaskar.
He equally appealed to war veterans to support youth social programmes such as sport development related activities.
Isaskar said with the high rate of unemployment, the youth need activities that will destruct them from all societal ills.
