Namibian passengers travelling to Germany will no longer require to be quarantined as well as present a negative coronavirus test result.
The ministry of international relations announced at the weekend that Germany’s Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has removed Namibia from the list of high-risk destinations for Covid-19, with effect from 17 October. The international ministry expressed appreciation to RKI in a statement.
“This is a great confidence booster for the Namibian travel and tourism industry that was devastated by the understandable pandemic related travel restrictions,” the statement reads. Passengers can also continue their travel to and back from Switzerland, Austria and Germany without any complications.
Meanwhile, the Namibian embassy in Germany has finalised the visa applications for a 15-member RKI delegation that left for Namibia on Saturday on the invitation of health minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula.
The partnership of the RKI with Namibia and Rwanda was announced by the Director for Sub-Saharan Africa of the German Federal Foreign office Robert Doelger at a recent video conference with the Berlin African ambassadors.
