Windhoek

The Windhoek Draught Welwitschias, who are still without a victory in this year’s Currie Cup qualifiers, will this weekend face the Boland Cavaliers in Wellington, South Africa on Saturday.

After ten rounds of matches in the 2016 Currie Cup tournament, the Welwitschias are still in search of a first victory as they slumber at the bottom of the log with just a single point, but Boland could also prove too tough opponents as they have won seven out of their nine matches so far and are currently sitting 3rd on the log.

The Currie Cup is South Africa’s premier domestic rugby union competition, played each winter and spring, featuring teams representing either entire provinces or substantial regions within provinces. Steeped in history and tradition, the Currie Cup dates back to 1891.

The tournament is also regarded as the cornerstone of South Africa’s rugby heritage and the coveted gold trophy remains the most prestigious prize in South African domestic rugby.
