The Katutura Expo 2016 promises to be bigger and better this year, with several new features added to this year sixth edition of the event, according to chairperson of the organising committee Ambrosius Kandjii.
Speaking at the launch on Tuesday, Kandjii, who is also the Katutura Central Constituency councillor, said the expo will contribute towards the implementation and success of the Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP) and Vision 2030.
Among the new features are a Kiddies’ Zone, an array of international musicians from neighbouring African countries who will be performing, and many other activities.
“It will be incorrect not to recognise and appreciate the community’s unwavering support over the years, which instilled the growth of small and medium enterprises,” Kandjii said, adding that the expo organsers believe its continuing existence will contribute to implementation of the HPP.
According to him, this year’s event is expected to attract more than 50 000 spectators, compared to the 36 000 attracted last year. “When we started the expo about six years ago we had 3 000 spectators and it has since improved year by year,” Kandjii said.
He said last year’s expo was hailed as a success by many and he believes that this year it will be even bigger and better. Kandjii used the opportunity to call on corporates, government ministries and farmers to get on board.
He also called on big companies operating in Katutura to come on board with sponsors. The expo is scheduled for July 23 to 31 from 09h00 to 22h00 at the Katutura Youth Complex in the capital and will be held under the theme: ‘Together we can break the chain of poverty’.
The entrance fee remains unchanged at N$20 for adults and N$10 for students and learners. The cost of exhibition space for companies and government ministries is N$4 900 and N$3 000 for small and medium enterprises.
