Construction of the Opuwo Rural Constituency office in Otuani, situated some 70 kilometres south-west of Opuwo, is set to commence soon following site clearance.

This is according to the councillor of Opuwo Rural, Kazeogere Tjeundo, who spoke to New Era recently.

Following the delimitation exercise of 2013, the former Opuwo Constituency was split into two constituencies – Opuwo Rural and Opuwo Urban.

Most operations of Opuwo Rural are currently directed from under a tree at the village of Otuani, explained Tjeundo who added that he is also mobile.

Prior to last year’s regional council elections Tjeundo served as councillor for both constituencies, before he was elected to serve as councillor for Opuwo Rural.

“Everything is going well although drilling has been tried but it was not successful as the area was found to not have enough water,” he said, explaining that construction at the site will commence soon. He said operating from an office would not only benefit employees of the constituency but the entire community.

“A constituency office is the central point where people will obtain and give out information related to what affects them. It is important for people to report their needs at the constituency office, which is equipped with resources and people who are ready to render the necessary assistance,” said Tjeundo.

The constituency has many problems which include communication, he added, motivating  why the office is important.

“Mobile and radio reception is bad and people are often cut off from the rest of the country,” he said.
