Young girls with a bright future between 18 and 26 years who feel ready to be ambassadors of Namibian education are invited to register for the Miss Namibia Ambassador of Education beauty pageant.

Aspiring young girls have until June 30 to register for the event, which is scheduled for August in Tsumeb. It is being organised by Proper Events Management, with the support of the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture.

Before the ten finalists are selected they will be required to undergo a modeling audition and a written test.

Miss Namibia Ambassador of Education is a charity event initiated to support, empower and promote the youth, especially young women who are concerned about fellow young people and who want to help advance educational activities countrywide.

“We came up with this idea of crowning the winner and also creating a place for her in society. As this does not only aim to showcase the beauty in our local girls, but to find the right candidate that will be personified as the educational ambassador,” says Fillemon Filly-zo, the main organiser of the event.

He adds that the winner will serve as a link between schools, learners and the ministry. She will be traveling to schools to identify problems there. “It is not really about [physical] beauty, We would also like to contribute to social responsibility as the youth and leaders of tomorrow,” says Filly-zo.

The mission and vision of the event is, however, to encourage and develop leadership skills among young women, so that they can in turn lead and provide leadership skills to the next generation.

Loide Katjuskah from Rundu won the title last year and walked away with N$5 000, a basic monthly stipend of N$1 423 and a transport allowance of N$860 for the whole year.

The winning prize this year is likely to be larger. The registration fee is N$100 and forms can be obtained via the Miss Namibia Ambassador of Education Facebook fan page.
