Windhoek
The first of the five editions of the popular Vita Juice Timeout Beach Volleyball Series held last Saturday at DTS Beach Arena in Windhoek saw male and female players compete together in the mixed grand slam for the first time in nearly 15 years.
In the 2-A-Side categories, teams were composed of one female and one male and the 4-A-Side consisted of two female and two male athletes. The four categories were Mixed Youth (Under 18’s), Mixed Social, Mixed Experienced and 4-A-Side Mixed.
The 19 teams that took part did not just compete to be crowned the Vita Juice Mixed Grand Slam Champions, but were also fighting for cash prizes worth N$6 000 in total, which was divided into N$1 500 per category, sponsored by Vita Juice.
The tournament was also the first ever day/night beach volleyball competition, thanks to the brand new LED floodlight system installed in February at DTS Beach Arena.
