Namibian Afro-pop artist Ndawana dropped his latest music video titled Epangelo last Friday, which he says is his contribution to the Harambee Prosperity Plan 2016/17.
The provocative video left people insulting and attacking each other on social media, as they understood the video content differently. More than 700 people shared the video within 30 minutes of its release on Facebook. People accused Ndawana of producing a video that degrades the Namibian government.
The song, produced by Young T at UGU Audio and featuring the Ses’fikile group (Toppie and Success) is an Oshiwambo Afro-pop song portraying the social problems facing the Namibian people such as child neglect, hunger, need for shelter, corruption and lack of leadership among government officials. The song also invites people from different countries to come to the rescue of Namibians suffering from social problems.
Ndawana intersperses the video with a collection of video clips of African people. It features clips of Namibian people in extreme poverty.
When contacted for comment, Ndawana revealed: “The video was not by any means created to downgrade the government, but to bring to light some of the happenings and situations that are deep down in the villages and shacks.”
Ndawana says the video is his contribution to the much spoken about Harambee Prosperity Plan of President Hage Geingob, adding that today’s leaders need someone to feed them with information about what is happening elsewhere.
“In fact, Dr Hage said we must interact and share information and ideas with them, to help the fight against poverty,” says Ndawana.
