Minister of Health and Social Services Dr Bernard Haufiku has donated N$10 000 from his own pocket to St. Boniface College, situated some 30 km east of Rundu along the gravel road.
Headgirl of the school Helvy Dora Jona, who was amongst the learners who received the cheque on behalf of the school, said they appreciate the funds, as the money will be used to imrpove conditions at the school. “We’re happy to meet him for the first time and very grateful for the donation he just handed to us. We really appreciate the effort he made to assist our school,” Jona said.
The principal of St. Boniface, Mary Yesudasan, thanked the minister for finding time in his busy schedule to visit the school. “It shows he’s interested in education, not only in the health fraternity. Education is the route of all the ministries or fraternities,” she said.
During the handover, Haufiku said he sincerely hoped that the donation will motivate the learners that they can fulfil their potential in life and like him they can become doctors, or engineers.
“This is just a small token of investment, like the principal said. I also have some sentimental attachment to the school, because the people who established this school were my teachers back at St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Döbra, and they have done a lot for me and the country,” he said.
Dr Haufiku is in the Kavango East on a medical outreach visit and took time out time to visit the renowned Catholic school.
