A taxi driver was shot to death on Saturday in Grootfontein.
Deputy Police Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi, who is the head of Nampol’s Public Relations Division, informed the media on Sunday that the incident happened at around 14:45 in Sam Nujoma Drive.

The driver has been identified as Max Makushe Mulon, 30. A fifty-year-old suspect has been arrested and was expected to appear in court on Monday.

Nampa reported that it is alleged that Mukena followed the government vehicle with his taxi from the Umulunga residential area to the central business district of Grootfontein. Mukena then reportedly overtook the government pick-up driven by the suspect, and made a sudden stop in front of the vehicle.

A quarrel erupted between the two men, and the suspect then pulled out a pistol and shot Mukena in the chest at close range.
Mukena was taken to the Grootfontein State Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.

In a separate incident, a man was found dead hanging from a tree in the Otuzemba settlement in Opuwo on Sunday at about 18h30.
The deceased, Philipus Nangolo, 24, allegedly had an argument with his girlfriend about their relationship.
His next of kin have been informed.
