Home National DTA congratulates Aung San Suu Kyi

Windhoek

The DTA of Namibia yesterday sent a congratulatory message to the National League for Democracy (NLD) party of Myanmar and its leader Aung San Suu Kyi on her landslide victory in the eagerly anticipated parliamentary elections. With about 47 percent of seats declared the NLD, led by Suu Kyi, has taken 90 percent of the parliamentary vote.

“On behalf of the DTA of Namibia, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the National League for Democracy and Aung San Suu Kyi on their landslide victory in the Myanmar parliamentary elections,” said McHenry Venaani, the leader of the DTA of Namibia. “We hope that this landslide victory will see Aung San Suu Kyi ascend to the presidency of Myanmar and that no obstacles will be put in place to bar her from ascending to a position
which the people of Myanmar have taken to the ballots to confirm they would like her to hold,” stated Venaani.

“It is my wish that Suu Kyi will receive the required assistance from the military chief, Min Aung Hlain, and that this victory for democracy does not descend into civil conflict due to the military forces being unwilling to relinquish power and hand it over to Suu Kyi,” he said.
