A one-year-old baby died on the spot and six other sustained serious injuries after a train collided with a motor vehicle at the Onankali railway at Uuhuma in the Okatope area of Oshikoto Region.

According to Chief Inspector Stephan Nuuyi police investigations are underway to find the cause of the accident. Nuuyi told New Era that the incident happened on Tuesday at around 07h30 at Onakali village.

The driver of the white Toyota Pick-up VVTi failed to stop at the railway crossing and collided with a train travelling from Tsumeb to Ondangwa. Nuuyi said those involved in the accident, including the driver, sustained serious injuries and have been taken to the Onandjokwe Lutheran hospital for treatment.

Both the train driver and the passengers in the train escaped the accident unhurt.
