A 16-year-old boy was attacked and killed by a group of six teenagers in Swakopmund on Saturday morning. The group, who are said to be between the ages of 16 and 22, attacked the boy by kicking and punching him all over his body, before stabbing him.
The incident happened between the hours of 02h00 and 03h00 along Havana Street in the Olutweni Suburb of Mondesa. Nampol spokesperson Edwin Kanguatjivi said the deceased has been identified as Joseph Ipinge and his next of kin have been informed of his murder. Kanguatjivi said the six suspects were arrested and are due to appear in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court today. The motive behind the attack on Ipinge has not yet been established.
The police in Windhoek meanwhile opened a case of attempted murder after a man shot another male, allegedly over a woman that the victim had approached. Kanguatjivi said the suspect become jealous and hit the victim with a baton, which he had grabbed from a security guard who tried to intervene.
“He then went to fetch a firearm and shot the victim through the left leg,” Kanguatjivi said. He noted that the suspect has not yet been arrested. The near-fatal attack occurred in Okuryangava on Saturday between 15h00 and 16h00 and the victim has been identified as Vezuva Ngarangombe.
In the Kavango West Region a 10-year-old boy was reportedly sexually assaulted by an older male relative on Wednesday. The suspect allegedly entered the minor’s hut at the homestead where they both live and ordered him to undress. Kanguatjivi said the suspect then sodomised his young victim. Exactly how the man is related to the minor could not be determined.
Kanguatjivi said the incident occurred at the Onyamburu Village at about 21h00 that day. The suspected perpetrator was arrested on Thursday and is due to appear in the Kahenge Periodical Magistrate’s Court today.
There was no let-up in the mayhem on Namibia’s roads as – in an unrelated matter – an Angolan national died over the weekend when a vehicle belonging to the Angolan Embassy that he was driving was hit from behind by another car, causing it to overturn. The deceased has been identified as Del Christovo, 23. Christovo was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards, Kanguatjivi said.
In the Omaheke Region, two Swazi nationals were arrested after being found in possession of cannabis worth close to N$130 000. Kanguatjivi said it is alleged that the suspects drove a minibus from Swaziland en route to Windhoek.
“At the Trans-Kalahari border post, a police officer on duty at the entry point into Namibia became suspicious and ordered the minibus to go through the scanner, which is how several parcels of dagga were discovered in the roof of the minibus,” he said.
Kanguatjivi said in total 29 parcels of cannabis were seized and two Swazi nationals, aged 26 and 27, were summarily arrested. The marijuana seized from the two Swazis weighed slightly more than 25.8 kg and the suspects are expected to appear in the Gobabis Magistrate’s Court today.
