The Brave Warriors will count on the quality input of the High Performance Centre (HPC) in Pretoria, South Africa as they intensify their efforts to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
Namibia is set to face Senegal on September 5 in Windhoek in their 2017 Afcon qualifier. Coach Ricardo Mannetti on Thursday announced a 17-member squad that formed part of the contingent, which left for Pretoria on Friday.
The Warriors used the centre during their preparations for this year’s Cosafa Cup, which they went on to win.
“The facilities are world class. It is perfect for any national team’s preparations. This includes the gym, accommodation and food. The centre also boasts ten soccer fields and offers expertise in the form of bio-kinetics, dieticians and fitness specialists. Since it is still pre-season for our local players we will do all the various tests to see how ready they are for international competition,” said the coach
This is the third training camp that will only consist of home-based players. Mannetti revealed that by August 27 he would announce a 23-man squad that will include the foreign legion, who will then fight it out for a place in the final squad of 18 players, for the Senegal match on September 5.
Namibia is in Group K together with Niger, Senegal and Burundi and lost their first 2017 Afcon qualifier against Niger.
Mannetti also revealed that goalkeeper Charles Uirab had to withdraw from the team due to work commitments, but a capable replacement in Edward Maova will instead make the trip down south.
