The upcoming Ovaherero Traditional Authority (OTA) gathering scheduled for this weekend at Okahandja is not Vekuii Rukoro’ s coronation as paramount chief.
The clarification was made by the OTA secretary Jonathan Katjimune who said the event is just a celebration for the introduction of Rukoro to the community.
“Let me clarify this issue, this is not coronation but a celebration and an introduction of Rukoro to the community,” Katjimune said at the press briefing yesterday.
He said Rukoro’s coronation was performed at Otuuaziza, Aminuis in Omaheke and the traditional ritual as per the Ovaherero tradition was done accordingly.
Rukoro was last year elected as paramount chief of the OTA replacing Chief Kuaima Riruako who died earlier that year.
The election took place at Ehungiro, located some 30 km north of Otjinene in the Omaheke Region.
Meanwhile the spokesman for the Organising Committee, Mbakumua Hengari informed the media on Monday the event would go according to plan.
He said a huge delegation from South Africa and Botswana were on their way to Namibia to attend the occassion.
Furthermore, former president Hifikepunye Pohamba is also set to attend the event on Saturday.
Other dignitaries will include the Governor of Otjozondjupa Region, Otto Iipinge, and the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Sophia Shaningwa, among others.
