Home Sports Stars remain focused despite boardroom wrangles

WINDHOEK – Despite the on-going nasty wrangles in the African Stars boardroom, coach Woody Jacobs insists his charges are too focused on wanting to win the league title to be destructed by the recent developments at the club.

Stars early this week parted ways with its financial backer and chairman Sidney Martin, who is the majority shareholder. Martin cited the constant lack of financial commitment from the club’s minority shareholders, Club 500, as the reason for his departure.

However, speaking to New Era Sport yesterday ahead of this weekend’s crucial fixtures against Julinho Sporting and United Stars tomorrow and Sunday at the Rundu Sports Stadium, Jacobs admitted that the issue has partly affected the players’ morale but said they talked about it and all players acknowledged the importance of them maintaining focus at this point in time.

“It’s an issue that came at the wrong time but we have come this far as a team and we cannot afford to back down at this stage. We are currently topping the league and doing very well in terms of form and consistency, so we will continue doing what we do best by going out and making sure we collect maximum points this weekend.

“The players know what is expected of them and equally know what they want to achieve come [end] of the season, so we are ready. It won’t be an easy assignment playing both teams in their background but we also need those points to maintain a healthy run, so we will have to do our level best,” said a confident Jacobs.
