TSUMEB – Oshikoto Regional Police members yesterday staged a massive march through the streets of Tsumeb to create hype and showcase their readiness ahead of next month’s annual Police National Sports Championship, to be held in Oshakati, Oshana Region on May 22-29.
Dressed in black and white attire, followed by a convoy of various types of police vehicles, the force members started their march from the regional police headquarters through Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana Street, turning into President Avenue before entering Hage Geingob Drive, which is the main road that passes through the heart of town.
Chief Inspector Usiël !Haoseb said the group was on the road to showcase and alert Tsumeb residents about the upcoming police games.
“The annual NamPol sports championship has existed for more than fifteen years and yet the residents do not know about NamPol’s participation,” he said.
!Haoseb said the team is ready to defend the men’s soccer trophy which they won last year, while also aim to take top honours in volleyball.
“We are planning to surprise the Khomas male volleyball team by beating them and that trophy will be displayed among others here in the regional police headquarters. We also aim to bring back more medals through the marathon and other athletics games,” he said.
Last year, the Oshikoto netball team was unable to take part due to the shortage of players – however this time around is fielding a team.
Due to the lack of equipment, the Oshikoto regional team will not participate in darts, tug-of-war and tennis as there are no players who specialise in those fields.
