WINDHOEK – The Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC) board on Monday officially endorsed NNOC’s earlier decision to appoint Abner Xoagub as the next president following the resignation of long-serving president, Agnes Tjongarero.

Following Tjongarero’s departure, Xoagub – who was vice-president – took over in an acting capacity but the board earlier this week endorsed the decision to make him permanent in that position.

“Yes, I’m now officially the president of the NNOC after the board members endorsed my appointment as new president on Monday. With just a few months left before the 2016 Rio Olympics, I fully want to apply all my energy on the athletes’ preparations and ensuring that all coaches and administrators are equally on par with the country’s objectives at the upcoming Olympic Games,” said Xoagub.

Tjongarero, who was president of the NNOC since 2004, resigned from her position after she was appointed Deputy Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service.
