KEETMANSHOOP – An estimated 400 athletes participated in the one-day Naute Sports Day in Keetmanshoop last weekend.
The event, which has been running for the past eight years, attracted people from all walks of life to take part in the 10-kilometre fun walk, 54- and 15-kilometre cycle events, and 15-kilometre running for elders while learners from different primary schools enjoyed the 8-kilometre race.
Event organiser, Annette van Dyk narrated to New Era that the competition is staged for the development of sports for the inhabitants of Keetmanshoop to be followed by a more prestigious event in September where prize monies will be up for grabs.
Entry fee was N$10 per person and Van Dyk indicated that each participant would walk away with different small prizes including containers, medals, free hamburgers and coke – courtesy of Wimpy, the principal sponsor of the event.
