Home Sports Stars maintain lead despite defeat to Civics… BA, Tigers still in the chase

WINDHOEK – MTC Premiership table toppers African Stars’ inspirational captain Pat-Navin Uanivi is confident his side is still in with a mighty chance to win the coveted league title despite yesterday’s 1-0 defeat against Civics at the Sam Nujoma Stadium. In fact, he feels the title is theirs to lose.

Speaking to New Era Sport after the match, Uanivi admitted that yesterday’s defeat was a setback and partly hampered their plans of stretching the gap atop the log table but however remained positive they will bounce back next weekend.

Despite the defeat, Stars still top the log table with 56 points, followed by defending champions Black Africa in 2nd place with 50 points and Tigers in 3rd place with 46 points after yesterday’s round of matches.

“It was a bit sad but we still believe in ourselves. Our fans should not panic because we are still in charge of  proceedings and know what to do going forward. We don’t need favours from other teams to win the league. We know we will win our remaining matches to ensure a smooth cruise to the league title,” said an optimistic Uanivi.

After suffering a 1-0 defeat to Tigers on Saturday, Black Africa yesterday dusted themselves off with a convincing 3-0 victory over struggling Rebels to keep leaders African Stars within spitting distance for the time being.

Third placed Tigers yesterday failed to duplicate Saturday’s performance when they played to a goalless draw against
Unam.
