WINDHOEK – TransNamib Holdings has confirmed that part of its rail network north of Mariental, between Hardap and Salzbrunn stations, was washed away due to the recent heavy rains received in the south, leaving passengers and goods stranded.
As a result, train movements have been adversely affected but TransNamib said it would bus passengers from the train stranded at Kalkrand to their final destinations as a detour to the washed away portion of the network.
According to TransNamib’s executive spokesperson, Struggle Ihuhua, a line maintenance team is on site and is attending to the damaged line to ensure speedy return to normal train operations.
“Our priority is safety first, to ensure our passengers and our valued customers’ freight reaches their destinations safely,” said Ihuhua.
