WINDHOEK – The Polytechnic of Namibia’s hockey team Poly Cookies recently received various hockey equipment from Waltons via funds raised through the Waltons Breeding Success campaign.
The money was generated from flavoured gum guard sales and the Poly Cookies were the lucky group to receive the equipment bought with the second amount raised.
This initiative started at the beginning of last year to sell flavoured gum guards and the money raised was first used to buy hockey sticks for selected underprivileged hockey players and awarded to them at the 2014 Mini World Cup.
Waltons further stretched out their helping hand and the sponsorship was facilitated by Shayne Cormack from K5 Sports to assist the Poly Cookies with indoor hockey sticks and face masks to ensure the ladies enjoy the game with great sticks and protection.
After the handover, the ladies played that evening and won their game against Wanderers. The Poly Cookies are currently competing in the 1st indoor hockey league and have so far won three games, drew three and lost two.
The team under the coach Dickson Vambe is busy preparing for the upcoming South African University Student Games to be held in Durban, South Africa.
