Home Youth Corner OYO to embark on GBV road show in the regions

WINDHOEK-The Ombetja Yehinga Organisation Trust (OYO) has since yesterday embarked on a road show  in the various regions of the country  on an awareness  programme on gender-based violence (GBV) starting with the Oshana region.

As part of the programme the dance troupe have prepared three pieces that will be presented to the regions such as  Hardap, Erongo,  Kavango East and West, Ohangwena and Khomas. Director of OYO, Philippe Talavera, says the three pieces on GBV was well received in the Omaheke region when they performed there last year. “This programme is made up of three pieces, some of you might remember He loved me, which we presented at the Warehouse Theatre last year and brought to the UK.”  He said when in the regions they always explain to audiences about referral systems where to seek support when abused. “We try to distribute additional material, it is important to always partner. The Legal Assistance Centre is one of our trusted partners and they are very helpful,” notes Talavera.

He adds that next month the troupe will work on a piece on the rights of the gays and lesbians. “In particular we are to build on work we started in 2012 with Magda and add one piece looking at gay sex in jails. We create two pieces, No more parties and  In and out, which will premiere at Franco Namibia Cultural Centre (FNCC) on April 10,” says Talavera.  The road show ends on March 13.
