Home Sports Warriors Promotions still alive despite financial woes

WINDHOEK – Following an absence of almost seven months from the boxing scene, promoter-cum-boxer of Warriors Promotions Boxing & Fitness Academy Joseph ‘Smokey’ Hilongwa yesterday insisted they are well alive and kicking despite ongoing financial hiccups.

In a brief interview yesterday, Hilongwa admitted it has not been easy keeping themselves afloat in the million-dollar business of boxing but remains adamant the situation will soon be remedied with the injection of a headline sponsor for the academy.

“Rumours that our academy has closed business are pure hogwash. We are still active and well alive on the local boxing scene. In recent times, we have been struggling to stage events due to the constant lack of finance but that does not mean we are not operating. But I’m still positive and once we secure a headline sponsor for the academy we will be back at full speed but we are surely still a force to be reckoned with when speaking about local boxing,” said Hilongwa.

“We are still busy negotiating with some business people and once we have something concrete on paper, we will communicate with all our fans. But we will soon host an event with or without a sponsor, I think our fans deserve it.”

Warriors Promotions was established in 2010 and currently houses more than 30 professional and amateur boxers in its stable. Amongst the 30, there are about 15 professionals led by Hilongwa himself, Tommy Hango, Lukas ‘The Demolisher’ Ndafoluma and Timo Shilula to mention a few.
