WINDHOEK – Debmarine Namibia and Namdeb Diamond Corporation have donated books and learning equipment worth N$616 000 to 29 schools in nine regions.
“Debmarine Namibia and Namdeb acknowledge the importance of education as a catalyst for the country’s development plans. As such we have selected the education fraternity as one of the key focus areas of our contribution to sustainable socio-economic development,” said Inge Zaamwani-Kamwi, Chief Executive Officer, Namdeb Diamond Corporation.
The two diamond companies made the donation through their foundation as part of the joint owned School Equipment Project initiative that started in 2011 in response to numerous requests from schools country-wide to address their operational challenges.
Since its inception, the project has donated equipment to approximately 30 schools.
The new donations include computers, photocopy machines, wall screens, science equipment, fax machines, multimedia projectors and educational books. They would be utilised by an estimated 15 100 children in the 29 schools.
“Education cannot be left to government alone. We can only be successful if we all join hands, parents, learners, private and public sector,” said Zaamwani-Kamwi.
