WINDHOEK – Martti Athisaari Primary School yesterday received 40 computers worth N$26 000 from the Namibia San Development Organization. The donation was made in response to an appeal from the Office of the Khomas Regional Governor, Laura McLeod-Katjirua.
Namibia San Development Organization caters for disadvantaged schools and the organisation’s director, Jersey Katjimune, said they were glad to respond to the governor’s request for computers.
“We live in a global technological village, therefore, we cannot evade the evolving technology and it is for that reason the learners have to be introduced to information technology and communication,” said McLeod-Katjirua of the need for computers in schools.
Meanwhile, the occasion nearly turned into a teary farewell reception with the school principal, Hermanus Jocobus Bock, expressing sadness at the departure of the governor, who is joining parliament next month.
However, McLeod-Katjirua said the donation was not a farewell gift to the school, adding, “As long as am still within the boundaries of Namibia, I will continue to improve and develop the educational sector.”
