Nedbank Namibia issued a statement yesterday that it is aware of false reports and messages circulating on social media and via WhatsApp. Erroneously, these reports seem to suggest that there may have been attempts at criminal activity involving a weapon at a Nedbank branch in one of the major shopping centres in Windhoek.
“Nedbank Namibia would like to inform the public that these reports are indeed false. An apparent attempt by a prospective client to open a Nedbank account with a suspected false Namibian identity document prompted members of Nedbank staff in the branch to contact the Namibian Police, which is consistent with the bank’s internal policies and guidelines,” stated Nedbank spokesperson Selma Kaulinge.
“We would like to thank the Namibian Police Force for their swift response to the matter, as well as the Nedbank staff members for their vigilance. Operational expediencies were not compromised during the incident,” she added.
