The weekend crime report was predominantly marked by incidences of murder, attempted murder, inquests, suicide, rape, concealment of birth, drugs, illegal possession of game meat, robbery and theft, and housebreaking.
Murder
Three murder cases were reported in different parts of the country. In Mondesa, Swakopmund, a man was fatally stabbed during a gang-related altercation on Friday night after attempting to intervene in a fight. The victim collapsed near a bar entrance and died.
In Windhoek, a 31-year-old lady was allegedly stabbed to death by her 33-year-old boyfriend during an alleged domestic dispute at Olukanda lwa Mkwanangobe informal settlement.
Meanwhile in Gobabis, an unidentified man was allegedly chased into a house by three suspects before being attacked and stabbed to death.
Attempted murder
A 40-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly stabbing a victim with a kitchen knife. She further allegedly assaulted the victim with a ceramic cup, leaving the victim unconscious.
Suicide
Police in Otjiwarongo are investigating the death of a 27-year-old soldier whose body was discovered in his room at the Jonas Shoongeleni Ndeimana Military Base with a gunshot wound.
Inquest
In Oshikuku, a 10-year-old boy drowned in an earth dam while swimming with friends.
At Karasburg, a 66-year-old pensioner died after allegedly slipping and falling into railway tracks while walking home.
At Vierkantklip near Swakopmund, lifeguards recovered the body of Nafutal Shinedima (37) who had been reported missing after disappearing at sea two days earlier.
A Brazilian tourist died when a tour vehicle overturned on the C14 gravel road. The vehicle reportedly rolled after a mechanical failure caused it to lose control.
Rape
Police are investigating two rape cases involving minors.
In Katutura, a 26-year-old man was arrested after a 13-year-old girl allegedly disclosed that she had been raped by him.
In Kavango East, two Angolan nationals aged 17 and 25 were arrested after allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl on separate occasions.
Concealment of birth
In Otjomuise, a female foetus estimated to be six to seven months developed was found wrapped in a plastic bag inside a municipal skip bin.
The incident follows another case recently reported in Okahandja involving the discovery of a recently born infant buried in the sand.
Housebreaking
In Swakopmund, a 23-year-old man was arrested after allegedly breaking into Auto Perfect and stealing household appliances, machinery and a computer.
A suspect from the DRC settlement also remains in custody following a break-in during which clothing and two bed base sets were stolen.
In Onandjaba, criminals allegedly used a ladder to gain access through the roof of a shop at Atuhe Complex before stealing mobile devices.
Another housebreaking was reported in Rundu, where suspects broke a window and metal bars before stealing electronic equipment and personal belongings from a residence.
Robbery
A violent robbery was reported in Academia, where five suspects allegedly cut through an electric fence and entered a home occupied by an elderly couple. The victims were tied up and threatened with knives while the suspects stole firearms, ammunition, electronic devices and cash.
In Grootfontein, a victim lost more than N$100 000 in cash and personal belongings after withdrawing money from an ATM. An unidentified suspect reportedly entered the victim’s vehicle at a service station and grabbed a bag containing the valuables before fleeing in a grey Ford Ikon.
Drugs
A 34-year-old man was arrested at Zoo Park in Windhoek after allegedly being caught selling drugs.
In Omuthiya, a 28-year-old man was arrested during a stop and search operation after police allegedly found him in possession of cannabis and illicit cigarettes.
