VIBEZ! – Charmy talks spirituality

Jaenique Swartz

Charmy Kurz, the Namibian-born singer and songwriter currently residing in the United States, sat down with Vibez! to discuss her walk with Christ, and the personal changes she went through during this transitionary period of her life.

The “Dat is Good” and “Body Talk” songstress highlights that she had been at the forefront of boundless opportunities while in the States. “God has blessed me with amazing opportunities to be surrounded by seasoned music experts, which enhances my work ethic. I am constantly growing in the studio, and my music sound is more international, and will allow me to connect with a larger audience.”

She reflected on leaving behind the identity she came onto stage with, otherwise known as Kurzca. “I go by Charmy now, which comes as part of my spiritual deliverance. Kurzca was a part of my journey that I have evolved beyond, and I am excited for everyone to learn more about my growth, going forward.”

“My journey carries so many of my own testimonies, and I want my music to show how God works through me, and share that with the rest of the world. That is, to be a voice for God, and for the world to see him through me,” she noted.

She furthermore highlighted that her strength comes from God, emphasising the fact that she always looks to devotional guidance from the word of God. “He is always speaking and there for us; we just have to listen, and open up to receive his Word.”

Her walk with Christ has been an eye-opening experience for her as she reflects a lot on her younger self, and the dream she had to one day become a musician. It is that very notion which propels her to encourage fellow Namibian children to never give up, and to remember how possible it is to live out their dreams.

“The closer I get to God, the more I see the truth about what’s currently happening in the world. I am learning more about the power of my voice, how I can carry a message through my music and share my spiritual journey. I know others are experiencing the same in their lives, and I want to give them a place they can hear from me and feel seen.”

Charmy’s spiritual journey has everything to do with her artistry, as she states her music has transitioned from the sound she became known for, which is much more for the clubs. “I want the music I make now to always carry a message”, Charmy adds.

She delights herself in encouraging others to advocate for themselves when asked about the advice she would give to aspiring artists in the industry. “Do not be afraid to speak up and share your truth as an artist. Everyone has a unique story and testimony to share. I guarantee it will resonate with someone; that is how we will heal the world.”
