ONGWEDIVA – Newly-appointed Ohangwena regional governor Sebastian Ndeitunga said he is proud to be appointed as a governor.

Ndeitunga, who served as Inspector General of the Namibian Police for 17 years from 2005 until he retired last year, told New Era yesterday that he is lucky because it is not easy to be appointed by the president.

“The president valued my work when I was an Inspector General of the Namibian Police. I am truly proud of myself and grateful for this opportunity. It is all about hard work,” he said.

Now, he is ready to serve the residents of the Ohangwena region in tackling the challenges they face.

“I will focus on the water crisis in the region,” said Ndeitunga.

Yesterday, president Hage Geingob relieved Ohangwena governor Walde Ndevashiya of his duties, and appointed the former police chief in his stead.

“President Geingob hereby relieves Walde Ndevashiya of his duties as governor of the Ohangwena region with immediate effect from 16 November,” the presidency said in a statement.

Ndeitunga’s term will come to an end in March 2025.

The presidency stated that as per the terms of reference, the new governor will be expected to ensure that programmes and projects in the Ohangwena region are fully implemented, in line with the budgetary allocations.

He is also expected to coordinate his functions with Offices, Ministries and Agencies to achieve efficient service delivery for the inhabitants of the region.

The head of state thanked Ndevashiya for his service during his tenure as governor of the region.
