Nudo member of parliament Joseph Kauandenge is sponsoring a football tournament that will see ten football teams compete against each other in five matches at the Khomasdal Stadium tomorrow evening.
The tournament is called the JKP Cash Loan Football Night.
Tournament director Ngatuuane Hange said rural football has been at a standstill for a long time, and this football night will revive it.
“It has been long, and we expect a huge turnout at our famous Khomasdal stadium, better known as Okatomeno. We urge people to come on time, as we are opening gates at 16h00,” said Hange.
In the first game at 17h00, Life Inno City from Otjombinde will be up against Renamo Bucks from Okomboni, and this will be followed by the Okotjituuo All-Stars versus Epupa All-Stars from Opuwo match.
Okondjatu and Gam All Stars will lock horns against each other in the following encounter, whereas NBC’s Omurari will face the OvaHerero Celebrities team in a curtain-raiser match before the regional derby between Omaheke and Otjozondjupa regions.
Since the premier league is off this weekend, the Omaheke and Otjozondjupa regional games will be comprised of players from the top-tier league and lower divisions.
“This is also primarily to give a chance to those players that are warming the bench to play,” Hange said.
The organiser further added that teams entered this competition for free, but the winner in each match will walk away with N$1 000.
“These games will also prepare players for the annual upcoming tournaments held in December in various rural areas of the country,” Hange explained further.
He further emphasised that the profit gained from the event will help fund the top-performing learners from Good Hope Primary School in Okovimburu and Okondjatu Combined School.
“We will buy stationery and school uniforms for the best performers from those two schools,” Hange clarified.
The damage at the gate is N$30 for adults, while children will be charged N$10.
The games are expected to end at 00:00.
